Rude Awakenings
February 21, 2010
When sixteen year old football star Montrell Wade was shot in the head on Saturday, many who were close to him were in for a rude awakening. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native was at his uncle’s house when he was found with a gun shot wound in his head and several friends running from the living room. He was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition. The junior at Washbourn High School was in his uncle’s living room with several friends playing with a gun. As the teenagers were fooling around with the gun, it fired a shot which penetrated Wade’s head. There are clearly several things that are wrong with this incident which are related to some things that are awry with our country.
Many people in our country seem to be living in the future as opposed to living in the moment. People tend to think about the next time they go out and buy themselves a new toy, or get that next pay check when they overlook the important things in life. This is just one example of how children are now being raised poorly due to selfishness and greed. Wade’s uncle was off “running errands” when he allowed his nephew and friends to play with a gun in his own living room. Neglect like this is the reason for public schools in urban neighborhoods and all around the country being less affective. Parents all over are too busy worrying about themselves and their issues when they brought these kids into the world. The children are off doing mischievous things and their parents could not care less. They should be worrying about providing for there children and raising them well. Unguided children do not know wrong from right because their parents are too busy worried about themselves. The government can put as much money as they want into public schools but it will all be a waste if people keep raising their children like this. The money that will be going into the schools will be a waste because kids do not know to do homework or projects without guidance from their role models. Lack of guidance leads to the reason there are kids in gangs, selling drugs, and playing with guns when they can be studying or playing sports. People take things for granted while they neglect their child which is the reason why incidents like these are the rude awakenings that put them back on track.
Kane Needs To “Grow Up”
February 12, 2010
After many news reports of Patrick Kane acting up again many (including myself) were not surprised. When news reports blossomed on his newest situation many people were shocked. Patrick and his two teammates, Kris Versteeg and John Madden decided it would be a good idea to grab a limo, some beer and some lady friends. During there night on the town, they took several pictures that ended up on facebook. On the day they were to play arguably their most important game of the season, Patrick Kane and several Hawks first addressed the surfacing of photos of the winger with teammates Kris Versteeg and John Madden in the back of a limousine with their shirts off, drinking and surrounded by the three unidentified women during a night in Vancouver earlier this week. This will not affect the players professionally but it will socially and personally. This brings up a significant issue in today’s society; Is anything on the internet today actually safe? The answer is no. Everything on the internet can be seen whether you know it or not. Even this blog can be looked at by anyone on the internet and interpreted in billions of different ways and every little thing that I write will reflect on me. A picture, post, and even a spelling or grammatical error will reflect on me as a person on the internet. Inappropriate pictures can potentially ruin someone’s future. In this case the players were lucky but in other cases such as job interviews, college applications, etc, pictures and other internet postings can be seen by everyone. People should be aware of fraud, predators and just inappropriate chats (or postings) and if you take care in everything you do on the internet, you can surf the web safely. This will be a good lesson for many but the internet is used by millions and one should think about the consequences before posting things on the internet. across the world for various reasons, these reasons being positive and/or negative. As safe as any website seems nobody can actually make something on the internet and not expect it to be seen by others. There is a fine line between right and wrong in this context and one should think about the consequences before posting anything on the internet because absolutely nothing can be hidden in cyberspace.
